Android 7.0 Nougat With 10 Great New Features

Google's operating system is everywhere, and it just keeps getting better. Here's what's new in this year's big release on the Android 7.0 Nougat.

Mobile operating system Android 7.0 Nougat starts as a Nexus device and eventually moves to another phone. The new OS includes new features and segmentation, each of which improves the overall Android experience. Some changes, such as bundled notifications, are very obvious. Then, there are less noticeable changes like new multitasking shortcuts. Let's take a look at what's new in our latest mobile OS.

The Daydream becomes the screen saver.

Google needed a new name for the old Daydream feature by reusing Daydream under the name of the VR platform. The new name is Screen Saver, which is much more meaningful than Daydream did in previous incarnations. Android screen savers always work the same way.

Fast multitasking

You can quickly switch between the two most recently used apps by double-tapping the Recent apps button. For example, if you have Gmail, but want to include it in an email, let's say you need to find something in Chrome. Once you open Chrome, find and copy the link, and double-tap the Recent apps button, your device will switch back to Gmail.

enable multi-window mode

Samsung users have been able to use the app in split-screen mode for a long time. With who (Nougat), Google is officially adding support for multi-window support to all Android devices running Android 7.0. To enable multi-window mode, press and hold the Recent apps button. The app you're currently using goes to the top of the screen (on the left side of your phone or tablet) with a list of recent apps at the bottom. Select the second app to use from the list. Drag the divider to resize the application window or maximize one of the active applications.

Drag and drop text, images when in multi-window mode

If you use two applications at the same time, you can drag and drop text between the two windows. Highlight the text, then press and hold until the text starts to float. Drag to the text field of another window and release. It's also assumed that when you share images between two apps, you update the latest Google products as well. Magic, right?

New installer animation

If you install an app outside of the Play Store, you will find a nice new installer animation when you load the APK side-by-side. It is a subtle change that will not have a major impact on everyday use, but it is not a bad change. Who does not like to see Android bots when possible?

Bundled reminder

Have you posted something on Facebook to pop up a notification window with Like and Comment notifications? Not for me, but for those who like bundled reminders. Once your app for Android Nougat is updated, you can bundle all your notifications into a single notification. Slide each notification down to display the remaining reminders for that specific app.

Quicker Setup

When you swipe from the top of the screen with one finger, you'll see a Quick Settings shortcut directly above your pending notification. Tap the icon to enable or disable features such as Wi-Fi, open battery settings, or turn on the flashlight. Quick Settings shows the first five items, so changing the order will change what you see here.

New emoticons

Android Nougat includes the latest and greatest emoticons with full rights, including bacon. In addition to being instantly baked in Android from the latest emoticons, we've reworked most emoticons on mobile devices. Smiley face now has more human appearance and feel.
